Some people seems to be using this wikipedia as an advertisement for their software. Gigaget is just a third party mod version of the software. This is not an alternate name. Maybe the ones who added this title just want to promote the software. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Animekill (talk • contribs) 01:18, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Used as Bit Torrent Client[edit]
October 16 2007.
Seen in use as a Bit Torrent client.
No mention of this anywhere so is a hybridised client the same as has recently been done by the FlashGet download manager which does not reciprocate connections, just downloads off of Bit Torrent and not upload back and falsifies data reciprocation causing data to be regarded as trash in Bit Torrent clients.
Given known nature of this software this seems likely and is indicated here http://www.cwrblog.net/431/kuaichecom-competitor-of-xunleicom.html
Bit Torrent users beware, this thing is a hybrid that will cause tons of trash data when connections are allowed to it the same as FlashGet!

Im not sure about upload, if leave to himself this program will eat a lot of upload bandwitch. and there is nowhere a upload limit setting.
Even if you use a external tool to limit the upload i noticed the program is really aggressive in opening connection to other peers. If you add a torrent with a high number of peers it will try to open a lot of connection basicly killing my router. Basicly use something else.

This reads like one big advertisement[edit]
This whole article at the moment reads like one big advertisement for Xunlei. It doesn't appear encyclopedic at all. It includes too much hyperbole; as an example, look at my changes to the P2SP section. When you squeeze out the sweet-talk and keep to the facts, I could combine the 4 paragraphs into one. It also seems to contain a lot of Original Research.
It's almost as if an employee of the company that produces Xunlei has written all of this. I absolutely apologise if I am false... although it still stands that a lot of this article should probably be re-written. I haven't got the time to re-write it all at the moment, but I have made a start with the P2SP section. Gwatts88 (talk) 23:32, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- You might want to browse through the history; the quality has gone up and down. --HamburgerRadio (talk) 23:41, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Yes, the software is an absolute pile of shit. I live in China, the Chinese people I know would never install this filth on their hard-disk, not just because of the mal and adware bundled in it, but because the company supplies every last bit of information about your practices, and what is on your HD to the (Chinese) Government.
Someone remove malicious link[edit]
Reference link number 1 is malicious. It managed to deliver a payload through firefox to my machine allowing it to corrupt some necessary files, causing my Ubuntu system to fail to boot and push the payload further, my Linux Mint system to lose the installed kernel, as well as my OpenSUSE machine. --76.113.168.220 (talk) 10:31, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
- Somehow I doubt that. --antilivedT | C | G 10:58, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Final Combat[edit]
Xunlei is developing a game called 'Final Combat' it is a direct rip off of Team Fortress 2 and Battlefield: Hero's. The models, weapons, and gameplay are all ripped from Team Fortress 2, and where applicable, reskinned. The maps are cut and pasted Battlefield: Hero's maps. In their official statement they claimed that Valve, the developers of Team Fortress 2, stole from them (Xunlei) even though Team Fortress 2 was released in 2007. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.74.47.144 (talk) 15:19, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
- This only happened because the game went free and the gold farmers in japan got bored and reskinned a game that i happen to care alot about. This new 'final combat' is direct rip-off. the half the characters shown so far didnt even have stories, aside from 'firebat' a direct rip of pyro that, to be fair, i liked. But yeah. someones going to get sued. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.106.107.251 (talk) 01:40, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
File Sharing or Criticism ?[edit]
qoute : 'Experience[whose? clarification needed] has shown that Xunlei version 0.1.0.0 refuses to upload any data for a torrent that has only two leechers (i.e., when the only seeder is offline). All Chinese ISPs limit BitTorrent bandwidth, as a result the Chinese users can't upload as the rest of the world <http://wiki.vuze.com/w/Bad_ISPs>. Furthermore, the 0.1.0.0 client sequentially requests pieces, which goes against the distributive nature of P2P.'The paragraph is unclear. What do ISPs have to do with Xunlei ? Is the 2nd sentence related to the 1st ? Or should all these sentences be moved to the Criticism section ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Preroll (talk • contribs) 19:34, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Xunlei (Chinese: 迅雷; pinyin: Xùnléi; which means 'swift thunder'), is a download manager and bittorrent client developed by Xunlei corporation. Xunlei is the most commonly used BitTorrent client, due to its popularity in China.[1]

Corporation
Xunlei is developed by a company called 「深圳市迅雷網絡技術有限公司」 (Shenzhen Thunder Networking Technologies, Ltd).

- May 2005, Sandai changed its name to Xunlei.

Products
Xunlei download manager, generally called Xunlei, is the flagship product of Xunlei Corporation. With its core technology of P2SP data transfer engine, Xunlei expands its advantage from downloading to multiple fields. Now, Xunlei Kankan, an independent video-on-demand product providing DVDquality videos is very popular. Gougou search engine which provides multimedia search is the fourth biggest search engine in China. Other supplementary products range from local Media Player to Software Assistant. In Baidu's Top List of Software Search, Xunlei and Xunlei Kankan generally hold 2 of the top 3 most popular software.
Xunlei
Xunlei is one of the most popular software chosen by end-users in China[citation needed]
Xunlei is also a products family with its members including the most popular Xunlei 5 and Xunlei Mini, Web Xunlei. As adware, Xunlei has advertisements in its products generally in the form of Web banner. Recently, it has started to offer VIP programs, providing value-adding services such as offline downloading.
P2P Client
Xunlei can not be simply seen as a P2P client, it is a compulsory sharing P2P client. It uses P2P technology to speed up but essentially not a file sharing tool, because sharing is compulsory. Xunlei users are used as peer to speed up other's downloading, without being noticed. No search, downloading, or publishing of private files was supported, as all these features are supported by another Xunlei product, Gougou. There is an embbed toolbar of GouGou in Xunlei. In summary, Xunlei is a tool and can be used only to download public files from web sites, if users wish to search for copyrighted or adult materials for downloading, they will have to utilise the embedded toolbar or the GouGou service directly[citation needed]
Xunlei Kankan
Xunlei Kankan is generally called Kankan. Kankan provides video-on-demand service with a web interface. The differences between Kankan and other VOD products such as video sharing like Youtube are as follows: First, Kankan makes use of its so-called P2SP technology and provides high definition DVD-quality videos. This naturally requires client installation. Second, Kankan claims to have copyrights and cooperates with many content providers and service providers in China. With Kankan's increasing popularity and increasing fame, Kankan grew so rapid that if often surpasses Xunlei in Baidu search traffic. However, there are reports that Kankan's streaming is not working very well in some cities of China.
Gougou
Gougou is a search engine focusing on multimedia search, but search of commercial software are also supported. As a fourth search engine in China, Gougou is No 1 in video search and movie search market, a terribly large selection of movie can be founded on the search engine, which includes mostly Hollywood movies. Gougou provides direct searching of files which causes accusations of copyright violation. This website often has pop-ups of its advertisers, which frequently infect one's computer with computer viruses and Trojans. Gougou makes efforts such as screening certain keywords; yet, it's still in doubt for a final solution.
P2SP
P2SP stands for 'Peer-to-Server-and-to-Peer'. It is a Content Delivery Network for Xunlei. It works in a similar way to a Magnet URI. It combines sources from a variety of P2P protocols along with HTTP and FTP sources. These URI's are searchable via the Xunlei application.
Challenges
Computer Viruses
Gougou Search Engine often directs users toward harmful websites or simply bring up pop-ups from its advertisers that are harmful, infecting their computers with computer viruses and Trojans. This caused Gougou to provide no 3rd party pages in a time which aroused protests from site owners. Download sites are often small and liable to attacks. It is technical challenging to be an effective search engine while still guaranteeing safety of users.
Copyright
Content holders often find users downloading their wares through Xunlei. They accuse Xunlei of helping, actively or passively, others to violate their copyrights. Xunlei however declares itself as only a tool and has no right to control how users use it.
As copyrights protection became stricter, Xunlei tried to find ways around this. In 2007, Xunlei announced a new service called 'Claim Copyrights' which enables copyright owners to protect their contents on Xunlei's platform. Later, Kankan claims to host only authorized content. Whilst these actions made progress, it's still far from a final solution.
Competition
Xunlei's popularity arouses much competition. The biggest competitors are Tencent whose flagship product QQ is used by nearly every Chinese user, and FlashGet whose product was the previous No 1 in China. As more and more tools are developing their own P2SP, Xunlei's technical advantage is facing greater challenges. Xunlei's counter tactic is to hire technicals to DDoS attack its enemies' web servers to stop their distribution.[citation needed] One recent incident is the a DDos on Flashget's web servers. However, Xunlei's dominance seems still very strong. This can be explained by the growth of its P2SP network using questionable methods and its deceptive marketing techniques.
Debates and Discussions
File Sharing
Xunlei is not a P2P tool in its essence as it does not support active file sharing. While copyright advocates view Xunlei as a P2P tool and a facilitation to violate copyrights, P2P advocates criticizes Xunlei is a P2P vampire with much greater downloading than uploading. Many pure P2P tools blocked Xunlei. This blocking lessened after Xunlei began balancing download and upload ratios.
Direct Linking
Direct linking, generally called leeching, is a concern to many site owners. In 2006 Huajun, the leading software downloading site in China, started blocking of Xunlei, along with many other downloading sites. The key issue is whether Xunlei is leeching and hurting sites to its own benefit. As more and more downloading tools embrace P2SP and bandwidth becomes cheaper, the problem seems to fade.
Privacy
Xunlei shares files by default without additional notifications after installation. While Xunlei argues that such action is a convention for every software and users can disable it, this still worries some users as sharing policy in Xunlei is unknown. Monitoring shows Xunlei shares only the files downloaded through it. File moving or renaming can automatically disable sharing.
